This year's annual Kiwanis Sap Run for Kids was another huge success.  Despite the damp day, the kids still arrived ready to begin.  Some were wearing their "Super fast shoes", others had on their "speedy suit".  Whatever it took, they were determined to finish.  The SportLab lanyard with a bottle of Maple Syrup was a nice 'finishing medal' and the coupons for a free pancake breakfast filled their bellies post run.  We also had some terrific cheerleaders to accompany the ringing cowbells!  An exciting day for all of us!

2023-02-25 Dwight Winter Carnival

Well, it started out as a pretty cold day at -21°C when we were getting set up in the morning, but it turned out pretty well. There was a great turn out and people didn’t mind braving the chilly Muskoka weather. Such a fun time by so many of our volunteers!

Special shout out to the die hard Muskokan who was obviously tough as nails to brave the cold in just short sleeves!  You’re a super star! Thanks for coming out to our BBQ!

The Dwight Winter Carnival Returns February 24-25, 2023!

For 51 years, the Dwight Winter Carnival has been delighting young and old with mid-winter festivities celebrating the frostiest of seasons.

The excitement begins Friday night with Kids’ Kapers. Bring your young ones to the Dwight Community Centre from 5:30pm to 7:30pm for games, snacks, prizes, and a whole lot of fun! Everyone leaves a winner!

With your appetite whetted for more, plan to spend Saturday exploring the many carnival activities, from delicious dishes to wildlife encounters.

Kick the day off with a tasty pancake breakfast hosted by the Dwight Lions Club. Get your grub by donation starting at 8:30am. But be sure to save room for donut decorating, hosted by Erika’s Bakery, and the Kiwanis BBQ lunch later in the day!

If you love animals, you won’t want to miss the Speaking of Wildlife interactive presentations at 10am and 1pm in the community centre, featuring native Ontario wildlife. Or stop by any time to chat with the interpreters and get an up-close look at their wildlife ambassadors. Outside, take a horse-drawn wagon ride, or visit with a herd of charming goats.

2023-02-07 Membership Meeting

So many things to be thankful for at last night's member meeting....  from Janice's handmade Valentine's cards/bookmarks and treats and Helen's maple candies, to the meal prepared by the Ladies of the UCW at Trinity United Church.  Nancy and Shirley, we look forward to many more meals in the future.

With all the extra hands setting up and taking down the tables and chairs, your time is appreciated as well.

Much appreciation to Member Allison Dalziel, for sharing her experiences dancing with the children of Circles Muskoka.  It was so much fun listening to your infectious nature as you described the children's experiences playing dress-up with your dance shoes, freeze dance, and so much more.  We are so pleased that you are able to share your skills as a dance teacher with others.  Thank you Director Janice Larade, for preparing the thank you gift.

President Shirley Bullock, President-Elect Kathy Higgins and Director Janice Larade had the pleasure of joining Circles Muskoka at their Christmas Dinner/Meeting.  We were able to present a couple of members with Gift Certificates for their children to allow them to shop for themselves. In the past, children have expressed their joy in being able to go shopping, and even buy a gift for Mom/Dad.  A lovely group of people that are doing their best to nurture, support, grow and change together.

2022-12-15 Christmas 2022 Salvation Army Adopt-a-Family

Every year, the Salvation Army Huntsville, takes applications from various individuals and families who are in need of assistance during the Christmas season. In response to their need various persons, organization and companies supply successful applicants with a food hamper. Applicants who have children also receive a toy hamper for each child up to the age of 17 years of age.  The Kiwanis Club of Huntsville Muskoka has once again supported the 'Adopt-a-Family' Campaign and provided some items to make their holiday a little less stressful.

Not only are we a serious group during the year when we're volunteering in the community or busy raising funds to support the children of Muskoka, but we also know how to have fun!

A great group of people, with huge hearts, letting off some stress. Thank you to all for participating in all the silliness of the evening.

2022-10-21 Ted Barris Lunch & Learn

Another successful event with Ted Barris!  The session started with a lovely homemade luncheon by the Ladies Auxiliary at the Royal Canadian Legion 232 - Huntsville.  If anyone left hungry, it would have been their own fault.

Post feast, Ted captivated the audience with a discussion on his new book Battle of the Atlantic: Gauntlet to Victory
Nothing less than engaging and passionate, Ted held the audience’s attention, while he took his listeners on a trip through Canada’s participation in the Battle of the Atlantic.

Upon conclusion, Ted signed books for those that desired. An educated audience left wanting to hear more.  If Kiwanis is able to recruit Ted for another session in the future, we will ensure everyone is aware.

2022-09-19 Golf Tournament Cancelled 😢

Friends of Kiwanis;
It is not the news we wanted to share but it is what we need to share, the 4th Annual Kiwanis Golf Tournament of September 19th at North Granite Ridge has been cancelled for this year.
There are certainly disappointed people, however the economic climate made it challenging for us and out of respect for our regular sponsors and golfers we were sensitive to their issues with staffing and simply trying to stay afloat, even though some would have made the effort to help, the numbers were not going to make it a meaningful tournament for the course as well as our golfers. We'll be back next year and trust that the economic climate will be in a better place as well. As for this event, those who have actually made payments, your funds will be returned, with our thanks.

Tentatively save the date of Monday, September 18, 2023 for the return of Kiwanis to beautiful North Granite Ridge G.C.

We are trying to help students from JK to Grade 8 in over 20 schools and organizations, from Gravenhurst to Burks Falls ensure they have the tools they need to succeed....however we need YOUR HELP.
We are about to start filling back packs this week, but we need to encourage folks to consider making a monetary donation at either Staples store from now until mid-September so we can continue to fill those back packs with the much needed school supplies.... Here’s how it works...  Over these 2 days, we partner with Bullock’s Independent, FreshCo & Metro grocery stores and will be on site and there to collect your donations...
There will be in-store “Food Bank Specials” to assist you and we encourage you to consider helping us to help those less fortunate in our community.
SIMPLY LEAVE YOUR FOOD BANK DONATIONS WITH THE KIWANIANS AT THE TABLES POSITIONED OUTSIDE THE STORE EXIT DOORS, BETWEEN 8AM - 4PM THOSE 2 DAYS.

2022-06-02 Kids' Bike Rodeo

A fun time was had by all.  Kids cycled through multiple stations beginning with Bicycle & Helmet Safety, to a multitude of areas to practice their skills.  Some were pretty tricky as they peeked over their shoulder to identify a photo behind them, and still stay in the lines with their bicycle.  Many laughs, many lessons, much fun!

Sending Kids to camp Friday, June 24th

Arrowhead Camp Day Camp (ACDC) | Arrowhead Camp

We are pleased to approve sending the SKC* students of Dwight’s Irwin Memorial PS to Camp Arrowhead for a cool day trip experience, getting away at the end of a truly challenging year.  Nicole Caracciolo, the SKC Program leader was so pleased to hear we were able to provide this respite for her students as some don’t get a chance like this often enough.
